An unusual shoot
I have had models show up without an escort or with their girlfriend or fiance as an escort, but this was the first time that I had an entire family show up. Having escorts in model photography is generally seen as a hindrance. I was a little concerned at first that there would be a lot of distractions and/or “direction” given. It turned out that I was way wrong in my initial thoughts and even happy to have them around.
For this shoot, Alison arranged access to a building in Hartford that has a lot of abandoned office space. We even had access to the roof as you can see in one of the images below. So how did the family help? Let’s take it person by person.
The Cousin
Alison’s cousin is hair stylist and did a great job with a couple of different looks for the shoot. You can check out more images from the shoot on John Kaminski Photography on Facebook.
The Mother
Mom was a big supporter of Alison and offered plenty of encouragement, but definitely took the backseat once the shooting began. She did help to arrange the outfits and get Alison all ready for the different looks.
The Boyfriend
I have to admit, he didn’t really do much except sit there. That was perfect for me though. I will give him credit for pulling out a beer which leads me to The Father.
The Father
Dad was the biggest help of all. He arranged access to the building, he went out and picked up a few beers for me during the shoot and while on the roof he secured the light with umbrella modifier so it didn’t blow over and break like it did on the last shoot. Way to go DAD!
A Family Bonus
So as you see, having the help at the model shoot was anything but bad. Everyone had a part to play and helped out a lot in actuality. The best part about the shoot (besides the awesome photos)? It was the fact that the entire family then took me out to dinner with them after we were done. Sometimes things just come together in ways you wouldn’t have expected. Thanks to Alison and her entire family.
